How to use Apple TV storage

so, buy apple tv unit, hook hdtv , braodband connection, , stream content ( quite slowly, broadband download seems 7mb / sec on adsl line )

know has local storage, surely if buying ( opposed renting ) content i'd need store locally avoid long repeated streaming downloads of same thing?

so, buy apple tv, hdmi interface cable, , else store content locally?. don't need lot of computer backup, might useful, how local hdtv content storage? apple product, vendor? options?

the appletv have no user accessible storage, has 8gb flash storage temporary caching of streamed content.

purchased content naturally reside in itunes library on pc/laptop. either stream itunes library, or via cloud if applicable.
