Remember I am new to Mac ? about recovery

i wanting make recovery disk (dvd) can boot dvd drive if bad happens. have read , read instructions, etc. need know in simple newbie language. macbook pro came snow leopard , upgraded lion apple store. can not find files or folder instructions keep referring to- "install os x lion. app". supposely directions, find in applications. using finder , spotlight, not find it. can me? want able boot if heck breaks out.
