Can't Capture With Macbook Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5, and Panasonic PV-GS320

i'm going crazy. can't mbp detect camera.

- macbook pro, 2011 model, os x lion, latest update
- panasonic pv-gs320, 4 years old
- adobe premiere pro 5.5, purchased yesterday
- 4 9 pin firewire cable, purchased yesterday

in system information under firewire i'm getting message "unable list firewire devices." explains something, someone, although not me. brand new cable bought.

in premiere says "capture device offline". there has been no sign computer knows camera connected it. i've rebooted, disconnected, reconnected, turned camera on , off, let sit overnight, etc. i'm not sure else can try other go cable make sure that's not source of problem. don't have other device firewire port can't test way.

imovie doesn't detect camera.

assistance appreciated.
