Obba 3.0: A Java Object Handler for Spreadsheets

new version brings platform independent client / server java spreadsheet add-ins excel, openoffice, libreoffice , neooffice

obba provides bridge between spreadsheets , java classes. obba, can use spreadsheets guis java libraries; turning java library platform independent spreadsheet add-ins. compatible excel/windows, openoffice/win/mac/linux, libreoffice/win/mac/linux, neooffice/mac.

note: obba not compatible excel/mac (on os x use openoffice).

main features are:

  • stateful access objects , methods running in java virtual machine via fixed set of spread sheet functions.
  • client/server support: java virtual machine providing add-in may run on same computer or remote computer - without change spreadsheet.
  • loading of arbitrary jar or class files @ runtime through spreadsheet function.
  • instantiation of java objects, storing object reference under given object label.
  • invocation of methods on objects referenced object handle, storing handle result under given object label.
  • asynchronous method invocation , tools synchronization, turning spreadsheet multi-threaded calculation tool.
  • allows arbitrary number of arguments constructors or methods (avoids limitation of number of arguments excel worksheet functions).
  • serialization , de-serialization (save serializable objects file, restore them time later).
  • all though spreadsheet functions, without additional line of code (no vba needed, no additional java code needed).
