Apple Adds Another 150,000 SF to Sunnyvale Real Estate Footprint

last month, noted apple had signed pair of leases on 300,000 square feet of space in sunnyvale, company's first venture city next door home in cupertino, california. leases said part of larger effort in apple looking secure 700,000-800,000 square feet of space in sunnyvale continues grow , tide on until massive new headquarters campus opens several years now.

according press release (pdf) city of sunnyvale, piece of plan has fallen place apple's commitment lease new 156,000 square foot building in downtown sunnyvale. apple said planning move 400 employees building, sits directly adjacent similar building nokia last year consolidated majority of bay area operations.

apple plans occupy new building in third quarter of year.

apple's planned "spaceship campus" in cupertino set offer 2.8 million square feet of space, structure not complete until 2015. in meantime, apple has continued snap real estate leases wherever can in cupertino , surrounding area accommodate rapidly-growing workforce. apple employs 25,000 full-time non-retail employees, vast majority of operate out of or near company's cupertino headquarters.

that sunnyvale center site has had bad luck.

montgomery wards used lead tenant , went bankrupt. 2 shopping centers there died , went derelict. redevelopment projects went bankrupt multiple times. handspring, post big ipo, supposed lead occupant, , vanished. nokia started crashing , burning occupied 1 of new towers.

apple brings better luck area.
