i have 2010 macbook pro snowleopard 10.6.8, & have been using apple cinema monitor, displays set mirror mode.
read using clamshell mode, & concern have when come power on laptop, opeing lid again power button.
there real benefits clamshell mode besides saving little space? preserve laptop monitor being turned off while using external monitor?
ask because of couple of concerns, 1 heat issues lid closed, other lid hinge wear. lid hinge wear out after closing activate clamshell mode, & opening power on each day?
read article saying 1 can turn off laptop monitor out using clamshell making external monitor primary display, & dimming laptop monitor way down.
little tricky using external monitor laptop & turning off laptop monitor, opposed using both monitors in mirror mode.
want laptop last long possible, expensive, & nice if lasted more 3-5 years. critical use clamshell mode?
not really. screen made last decades; leaving on , taking few years off it's life not going matter @ all. unless plan on using 30 years.
