safe to upgrade to ML?

my friend school gave me copy of mountain lion , have been debating whether should use or not.

told me got dad (who developer), but, knowing him, off of pirate torrent.
new apple computers, consider myself pretty tech-savvy person.
want test out new features , everything. have few questions.

made complete time machine back-up. 1) need if need restore if goes wrong? have lion usb recovery (becasue have 2010 air , came one).

2) need wipe computer before installing? have 128gb version, separate ml partition not possible.

3) people have done it, of apps use compatible ml?

4) there problems might come across when doing this.

know should wait, not want wait if don't have to. if relatively risk-free, want it.

if unable install on lion without losing things, restore files lion (time machine) back-up while maintaining ml os?

you should wait ml released instead of trying pirated copy work.
