Apple Cinema Display 27" needs repair.

a power outage damaged acd few days ago. display dim , flickering now. brought apple store , geniuses diagnosed having bad lcd panel, costing more $800 replace. i'm not convinced lcd panel problem here. display works fine @ lowest brightness setting. think possibly inverter board or else power related. think? options here?

 

i'd take independant electronics repair shop second opinion.
