Iphone 4s Cogwheel when booted now phone is bricked

hi guys

looking advice. got iphone 4s vodafone when launched (on launch date). worked normal, except whenever started or shutdown iphone, cogwheel symbol appear instead of apple logo. fine, , didnt make of it. on vodafone contract. yesterday upgraded 5.1 , think phone got bricked. not start. (it stays on cog wheel logo). tried restoring it. doesnt help. took apple 'genius' , tried restoring it, doesnt work. think have jailbroken iphone, havent!! (i not clever!) , not iphone , have returned back, 'genius' said paperweight!. think inconsiderate. offered no @ , quite rude.

took vodafone, , have sent repair center. fearing worst, might cannot anything. wanted know rights on this? iphone, on contract , not jailbroken. how these guys fix/replace it? , later on make formal complaint against genius bar in apple store.

can please ? can imagine, quite frustrating apple customer. did not know cog wheel there, drastic else have reported earlier.
