so described in other threads when running bootcamp forced use discrete gpu, that's bit of down side on battery life want try , minimize. need gaming trying figure out if there way better battery life work related activities in windows.
3 questions:
1. work activities light/moderate sql usage proprietary tomcat based application , ie work. think type of thing virtualized wipes out savings turning off discrete gpu?
2. when using vmware or parallels can point bootcamp partition , force use intel integrated graphics in attempt save power? (i'm thinking no)
3. or make difference if whole windows os installed in vmware or parallels? wouldn't opposed have 1 gaming , 1 work power saving if makes real difference.
machine in question late low end 2011 15" quad i7 , 6750m.
what keeps using gfxcardstatus , force intel gpu.
there troubles when switch gpu while vm running. doesn't outright crash lot slower should in experience.
thing 1 can restart vm , glad doesn't take long ssd.
force intel unless mean play game or plug in external screen.
not sure understand questions. in case can force native os (osx) use whatever gpu want means of gfxcardstatus. vmware parallels don't give **** gpu running. apple's drivers suck though , restart of vm after switch necessary full performance @ least in experience. doesn't matter if vm running bootcamp partition, windows image, linux, solaris or whatever.
