Snow Leopard Sharing question

long time reader, first time poster. did googling , searching here , couldnt find anything. forgive me if has been answered already.


ok, noticed today. first bit of background. latest gen mbp, running latest version of sl 10.6.8. have file sharing turned on in system preferences, no directories listed shared.

weird part. if connect computer girlfriends via ethernet cable, assign each static ip (i used 10.0.0.1 , .2). mac shows fine on girlfriends machine, if connect it, entire user directory whole hard drive shows up. granted have type in user credentials connect mbp hers, surprised see these things being shared since not listed "shared" under system preferences.

normal? know why happening?

yes normal. authenticating user of machine. specifying folders allows change can access what, or without password , username. default thing should accessible without username , password public folder. if not case, have issue settings.
