Massive problems after changing a .plist file...

help! after messing .plist file, applications fail open.

starting @ beginning, wanted ibooks author running under 10.6.8 yesterday, followed following step in guide:

from mac os x desktop, hit command+shift+g , enter /system/library/coreservices/
locate systemversion.plist , make backup copy of desktop
launch terminal , type following:

sudo nano /system/library/coreservices/systemversion.plist
locate keys productuservisibleversion , productversion , change strings “10.6.8″ “10.7.2″
hit control+o save file

worked charm , managed install app. backtracked , changed strings "10.6.8" , thought nothing of it.

today, system tells me wants update itunes , safari, agree to. however, afterwards both crash , fail open. check system version in "about mac" , shows 10.7.2.

go .plist file , find changes haven't been made, go through them , make sure save. 10.6.8 shows in "about mac".

itunes , safari won't open figure case of deleting lion versions , downloading older ones, problem lot of other applications such ical , 3rd party apps spotify fail open. following error both:

"spotify cannot opened because of problem.

check developer make sure spotify works version of mac osx. may need reinstall application. sure install available updates application , osx"

suggestions?

apps written lion 10.7.2 have sorts of problems running under sl. sounds bad idea.
