please run program administrator, or contact local admin."

thing is, admin , there 1 account on laptop have admin rights. logged in admin when tried run script update program.

ok, pretty excited retina display versions of ipad when announced, when first got on launch day, underwhelmed. perhaps hype. now, after using 3 weeks, i'm enamored. when high definition content viewed on it, it's absolute joy. quandary, other people buying more movies/tv shows itunes because 1080p content looks on it? used content other sources (wink), now, since highest compatable resolution possible, itunes surest route. icloud feature me game changer. being able delete these large files after i've watched them , redownload them if want later, increases value of product tremendously.

perhaps of novelty of new device, i'm pretty sure i'll buying more itunes ipad did original , ipad 2. else noticing same trend?

entirely speculative, found interesting in reading review on eurogamer of new geforce gtx 680 (smashing card, apparently) comes displayport adapter on back. now, far i'm aware not many pc displays come displayport yet, why that?

 

graphic cards started shipping dp connectors years ago, ati radeon 5000 / 6000 / 7000 series have them, gtx 580 had them too.

dp not apple connector. there no such thing "pc displays". think confusing dp thunderbolt.

i have been researching styli couple of weeks figure out best me note taking , light drawing.

seems jot precise , best writing (especially because print, not write in cursive) have found reports of jot missing strokes , skipping lot... know doesn't sound much, college student not working right $20 lot of money spend on not going work well.

know there lot of jot users around here, guys have same problems? find jot still working after months of use?

i haven't found skips much, honest. depends on angles use write, how write, how hold pen, etc. guess having screen protector effect it. reference, write in cursive , use jot note-taking, annotating documents, sketching/brainstorming, , occasional journal writing. tried writing in print found sound of disc tapping screen irritating.

my girlfriend doing open uni course, , supplied dvd. contains web site, there's lots of links video files (which stored on disc).

want whole disc onto ipad 2 somehow. realise i'll have convert videos (they're flv) m4v , edit html files point m4v files instead of flv files, once i've done this, how can store whole lot locally on ipad?

Questions regarding Microsoft Office 2011 Word Normal.dotm template

purchased new macbook pro, running mac os x 10.7.3. in doing so, had purchase microsoft office 2011 mbp can not run microsoft office 2004 (which using on old ibook g4).

questions normal.dotm template found in user templates subfolder buried in application support.

specifically, whenever open word, initial document opened in "notebook layout view". initial document open in "print layout view" when open word. have tried opening , modifying normal.dotm template, every time save , open word again, resorts previous notebook layout view.

well, modify normal.dotm template that, whenever create new document, document maximized fit screen; it's bit time consuming manually have resize document every time open it. think able in 2004 version, don't know how version.

finally, 2011 version contains new "toolbar" opened every time document opened or created. "toolbar" unlike 1 have seen in 2004 version , has menus such "home", "layout", "document elements", etc. while possible hide toolbar once document opened or created, wondering if there anyway have hidden default.

i'm hoping can me.

excellent tip. music itunes match, , small percentage lossless encoded, takes awful lot of space on ipod. converting lossless songs 256 kbit helpful , doesn't take long.

because of long time takes in cases (like using 128 kbit on 160 gb ipod), great if itunes bit bit - sync full size, start converting , adding more music, , letting unplug ipod @ time.

iTunes Match no longer "upscaling" my mp3 files

just "upgraded" itunes 10.6 in effort iphone see of itunes matched songs. (iphone doesn't see matched songs, if have been deleted , redownloaded matched aac files.)

after latest "update" lost ability deletemusic , redownload upscaled aac files. can still delete, , redownload, doesnt upscale anymore!

running itunes on windows 7.

 

someone try upgrading itunes version 10.6 , try delete , redownload (usually process of upscaling aac). let me know if works you.

ATV2 Stuffed...

hey guys, not sure how can here, after day of trying fix bugger thought might something!

so! watching atv2 last night in lounge. decided move bedroom finish watching (i have power cord , hdmi there it). common thing me do. plug tv, boots up, apple logo, turns off. boots up, apple logo, turns off. rinse repeat.

brought lounge tv. same deal.
decide restore, manage find micro usb (why hell doesnt come if need beyond me) kindle, , error 9.
try every port on computer, same deal.
try doing menu , down trick power cord in, menu/play pause re mount it, same deal.

try on work windows laptop, different error! try again, different error, try again, different error. try downloading version of manually, doesn't sign off apple , denies it.

fyi never been jb'd. not under warranty, no apple store in state.

other ideas? wont buying new 1 @ point since atv3 closely rumored. (or i'll product works nas!)

hi there,

i'm looking mac app me design headers of blogs - basically, want straightforward way to:

- open new image of set number of pixels (900x200, example)
- copy , paste few photos in , able click on them , individually drag alter dimensions.

know use simple paintbrush this, want individual control of each elements drop in, after have been dropped, if makes sense.

forgive noob level of question techie, not graphic designer. last time did used harvard graphics under dos 5!

have gimp think need vector graphics app. have downloaded inkscape way complex want do...can suggest anything?

SSH (4.4.4) ATV2 Issue

hey, all.

today jailbroke or attempted jailbreak newly bought atv2. seemed have gone smoothly seas0n pass method. @ bottom right hand corner, fc emblem visible says on several trouble shooting websites i've visited.
when try ssh, given connection timed out issue. continuing happen no matter do. suggestions? cannot until figure out, yes? open terminal on mac directed, insert: ssh root@192.168.(my ip)
each time said, connection times out. enter password , following directions. known problem? how can fix situation? time , hope can fix this.

 

you not ssh ip ssh atv ip address.

Lens choice for videography

hi guys,

i'm sure you've had hundred of these questions asked i'm stuck.

have decided buy cannon 550d , having allot of trouble choosing lenses need shooting videos.

shooting cycling videos need zoom lenses low-light capability's shooting while sunny have able cope both.

thinking of 18-55 , 18-200. have $650 usd spend on 2 lenses.

Upgrade Snow Leopard to Lion... tips, advice?

ok, i've got imac, guess late 2009 edition. intel core 2 duo 3.33 ghz, 8 gb ram, ati hd 4670. it's running great, has snow leopard on it. other builtin software, use ms office, dreamweaver cs4, , fetch.

i'm looking upgrade lion can keep up, , can install imessage beta (which yeah guess i'll upgrade mountain kitty update don't care upgrading i'm feeling left behind announcement of mountain cat/lion/whatever.

anyway, i've never done upgrade on mac before. need special before upgrade? i've got time capsule , it's been backing months don't need up.

tips or tricks me upgrade process? read should make dvd/usb copy of lion after download, before upgrade.

i "upgraded" lion , looking external drive clone to, erase , reinstall sl. can lion 10.7.3 experience "it doesn't work." sl it's at.

iPad shows up under Shared Network?

after fooling around on macbook tonight realized ipad (generation 1) showing on shared network. decided turn iphone's (4s) wifi on see if show on network, didn't.

i've searched high , low answer why ipad showing on shared network , how resolve removing it. connected network multiple coworkers barely know , don't having on there! please me resolve this... i've attached screen shot of talking about. thanks.

 

don't know how got there....unless running bonjour service. can't recreate it.

there few things want know first:

sl disc - boot of sl disc recovery etc - using time machine older 500gb disk pc days on usb.

if lion should fail or should desire upgrade hd ssd - how recover time machine not os boot disc????

anyone have solutions viewing keynote or powerpoint presentations notes field including in desktop specific apps? solution have found far using keynote on ipad , reading notes on each slide, requires 2 finger taps notes , 1 go back-unnecessary, , can't read them together.

Pointers on learning OpenGL ES 2.0?

for next ios app, think i'd take stab @ making 3d game.

i've followed ray wenderlich's tutorial on drawing models using glkit/opengl es 2.0, i'm not sure know how go having game.

think next thing need learn how this:
how create multiple instances of single model effectively?

ideally seems have 1 file containing level explains models should placed , several other files defining each model like.

, while i'm aware things unity out there simplify process, feel might lose out on valuable learning experiences if use that.

have book opengl es 2.0 programming guide, published addison wesley, haven't looked @ in 2 years (when discovered way on head... level reading worth time now?)

 

are writing game learn opengl, or writing game write game?

if former, guess you'll have dig deep opengl (and can't ya). if latter, suppose should consider using unity or other engine takes care of lot of gritty stuff you.

My iPhone 4s has worse reception than 3GS

morning all

i've moved 3gs 4s & while i'm pretty happy 4s (much faster, certainly), reception noticeably worse.

• i no signal on iphone 4s in areas did on 3gs
• on 3gs, 1 bar useable - it's not on 4s
• tethering on 3gs reliable & patchy on 4gs - dropping connection regularly
• i'm connected cafe wifi & mbp has no problem, 4gs doesn't seem have / data access, despite being on same wifi & supposedly having strong signal

don't me wrong - still love phone etc, lack of signal driving me bit nuts. hope i'm not one, & apple sort out...

i'm posting on mbp, while failing send couple of imessages on phone - once again should have strong signal useful pot plant. i've tried turning phone off/on etc no joy

 

sorry beat dead horse, holding wrong?

iphone 4s doesn't suffer same "issue" iphone 4 does, poor signal happening phone placed on desk (e.g. when you're not holding it)?

Airport Express static noise from speakers

don't know if right section in forum post (sorry ). need audiophiles , apple experts. have no knowledge audio equipment hope willing me out.

have airport express connected 3.5mm audio cable line in of speakers. airport express hooked ethernet cable, , transmits wifi signal share internet.

when turn speakers 80% can hear static noise (speaker interference). there can this?

Video Card Problems? (MacPro 1,1)

the other night mac pro 1,1 froze watching netflix. couldn't kill anything, had hard shut down.

when starting up, working normal, chime, gray screen, apple, progress wheel, blue screen couple seconds, , bang grey screen where, reason, mouse still works nothing else ever happens. left entire night first night, when woke next day still that.

order of events fix problem:

1. reset pram. reset logic board.
2. enter aht, won't enter goes same grey screen mouse works nothing else.
3. enter safe boot, enters safe boot fine.
4. boot snow leopard disc, goes same grey screen mouse still works.
5. wipe , reinstall snow leopard using mbp mp in target disc mode. reboot after finished installing , goes through same process before , ends @ same grey screen mouse still works.

still boots fine safe mode whatever reason, don't want run in safe mode.

reason wondering if video card because couple years ago (at end of applecare thankfully) having problems similar , replaced video card , working great again. believe card nvidia, card doesn't have fan.

looked @ graphic card , capacitors seemed fine, didn't bloated or anything, "genius" @ apple tried show me last time , couldn't tell either.

there can in safe mode diagnose further. i'd gladly buy radeon 5770 if knew fix it, i'd sure before sink $250 find out logic board dead.

help!

 

does have ideas? i'm new forum, if more information needed, please let me know.

Importance of graphics card

hello.

planning on making switch mac. been having lot of media work coming in , pc holding me back. i'm looking @ imac in perticular. need mac for;

video editing (most demanding thing mac needed for). i'll using premiere pro , after effects (and rest of adobe cs5.5 production premium). i'm not world's advanced editor have lot of work coming in , want learn pretty advanced side of video editing (think music videos , commercial adverts/documentories).

needed audio recording (not intending demanding band has mac pro based in recording studio main legwork), , reasonably intense photo editing. these 2 requirements i'm not taking consideration (so far) excpect video editing main thing need cater specswise.

question this...

thinking going 21.5 imac (has advantage of being pretty portable - concievably small flight case , able mobile - , cheaper). thing worried me though small graphics ram (512mb).

wont playing games machine, how important graphics card video work?

whether go 21.5 or 27 imac...i i7 chip , 16gb ram third party.

away graphics card when start using premiere , after effects reasonably advanced tasks???

i can't that's kind of work on imac (specs in signature) , runs fine. more vram never hurts; it'll make render times less , such, it's not major thing worried (at least in experience)

is there way spotlight default "file name" instead of "contents"?

it's minor annoyance, irritates me every time search file, exact file i'm looking pop momentarily in window, buried under bunch of other unrelated files similar phrases in contents.

Help me regain control over my computer

hi,
macbook pro march 2011 stollen , recover police (thumbs police). original os snow leopard upgraded 10.7 lion.

when got laptop opened system preferences > user accounts , account there subscript deleting account. guess thief used options delete account option "securely delete home folder" takes lot of time complete. these preferences secured closed lock. couldn't add new user. need new user !

files. have time machine backup 3 months old if there no other way. when figured out account being deleted opened terminal , cd /users , lo , behold there home folder. tried switch off computer system preferences prevented account being erased. forced computer down power switch. computer , there 1 user don't know password. can

do?
how can use time machine backup ?
remotely possible copy remains of files external hdd?

this 1 of situations target disk mode can come in real handy. need second mac , firewire/thunderbolt cable though.

approach physically remove internal drive , set aside. install new drive , restore time machine backup that. see can off of old drive time on side.

has had success using intel 520 series in mini's? installed 520 240gb ssd , has been formatting last 2 hours stuck @ 50%. can't seem find firmware upgrade osx.

afraid 1 may not work , i'll have return else (and have stop format may make drive inoperable). not it's working now.

hi rippey, got same drive (180gb version). going put in mac mini soon, weekend.

what's drive's firmware version number? realize may late now, it's useful take photo of intel sticker before put in mac mini. not easy pop-in install in laptop.

i'll find out version , check firmware updates. did lion os re-install via internet recovery? think i'm gonna try make myself bootable usb beforehand.
