Stuck on 1601 error message and black screen on phone

i have 3gs on 4.1 , 6.15 , tried update redsnow ios 5, phone did not restore , got stuck in recovery mode. second time happening, how got out of last time restored 4.1 , got 1500 error , used recboot , got normal not working time , getting 1601 error. please help. i'm on mac btw.
