have 2006 mac pro (2 x 2.66 dual core) w/6 gb ram, 2 750 gb hds, , 1 1tb black caviar hd running snow leopard. produce music, , in need of space , more power. posting here see if it's possible upgrade machine , able need @ least 5 more years--or better start on new imac, or buy mac pro when new 1 comes out?
here's thinking upgrade:
--eventually upgrade 16 or 32 gb ram
--replace 2 750 gb hds 2 tb black caviars (wd)
--upgrade cpu chips--is possible, , can done no experience doing type of thing? how fast can machine going?
--i've heard possibly getting ssd speed things up, sounds expensive, complicated, , unnecessary. opinions on that?
suggestions or opinions welcome, , forward hearing has say.

short answer is, yes possible upgrade of want in mp 1,1. cost you, in ram fb ddr2 ram these machines not cheap, although can search ebay deals on ram , cpu's. cam upgrade cpu's 2 quad cores giving total of 8 cores. can upgrade amd 5770 video card, add larger hard drives , add ssd.
