USB Time Machine -> Airport Disk Time Machine

i have been backing year using external 1tb usb hard drive. purchased airport extreme , want use same hard drive airport using airport disk. hoping time machine pick on wifi left of on usb. when connect airport disk, starts backing if there not time machine backup there (though still shows same amount of free space).

have erase drive , start backing fresh? i'd rather not have if @ possible.

network backup uses spare bundle, direct disk doesn't, create sparse bundle , move it.
