External Hard Disk AC Vs USB Powered

hi, i'm planning of buying new external hard drive. have 2 usb powered western digital hard drive. time, thinking of getting ac powered drive 1tb-3tb. wondering there advantage of using ac powered hard drive? don't mind cords, i'm going use new hard drive @ home only.
