the current generation apple tv released @ beginning of fiscal 2011, means apple has sold 4.2 million 2nd generation (ios-based) apple tvs in total. impressive, considering google's set-top box efforts have fallen flat far. however, these numbers, tim cook still considers apple tv "hobby" because on dollar-for-dollar basis, device barely makes dent in apple's earnings numbers.
answering analyst's question apple's living room plans future, tim cook dodged obvious inference apple-branded television set , instead noted:
