Networking Ubee Modem/Router and AP Extreme

my cable company gave me ubee modem/router. , i've got airport extreme. can't seem figure out how ae speak router.

first question, though: i'm using time machine wd external drive. time machine have go through airport, or can plug wd usb port of ubee , away airport? (i did try this, , time machine didn't work without airport.)

second: thought there utility setting network, when go network utility or airport utility don't see allows me 2 routers speak. or maybe i'm more confused realize. help?

third: if don't need airport extreme backups, can used extend range of router? is, @ parents' house, have linksys router in 1 room. don't wireless upstairs. there way use airport extreme upstairs have pick , amplify signal linksys? (i'm pretty sure there other gizmos this, if i've got ae . . . .)

when ubee , ae don't talk each other - mean?

have ubee twc, has been placed in bridge mode , connected wan port on ae. show in cryptic ascii art:

cable_tv ---> ubee ---> ae wan port

ubee should talk ae fine, in should pass data ae , vice versa. depending on model ubee router, might end double nat situation need place ubee in bridge mode. not option on firmware on ubee without typing special web address computer pull config page. should able google ubee, , model number , bridge mode set. want turn wireless on ubee off too...

first - no ubee not support time machine

second - ubee configured through webpage type web browser after connecting tot modem. 192.168.100.1. apple config app apple products.

thrid - need ae, , understanding apple routers can extend other apple routers cant extend other manufacturers.
