Necessary Cables

i've looked around forums, not had luck finding need, apologies if has been covered death.

have macbook , brand new sanyo hdtv. wanting connect macbook tv , not quite sure need do, , hoping on here me.

read, need mini-dvi dvi adaptor, need dvi hdmi cable. (my tv has slot hdmi believe 1 use?) cables need? there better choices? and, once computer hooked tv, still have control of macbook? instance, still use keyboard , track pad?

thank help, appreciate it, clueless on matter.
