ok, shoot me! has easy fix, don't know how...
when in draft email body , hit delete (to remove space or words) delete whole damn thing....uugh...plz time.
know, i'm idiot! still trying "on mac" category side menu accidentally dragged trash shows in trash want because liked option of (hide) subfolder in mail.
after done laughing @ me plz sleep deprived mother of three.

Windows is not genuine


i keep getting "this copy of windows not genuine" error. thing copy genuine bought student discount directly microsoft. other dealing microsoft directly there ways can remedy this?

i've had same issue, i've called microsoft multiple times , support bunch of idiots because though sent them copies of receipts , such (we got free through college) keep suggesting bought illegally (even though iso downloaded straight site).

iPad Need help 'cleaning up' Jailbroken 5.0.1 iPad 2


hello, bought jb'd ipad 2 on 5.0.1 has remnants of previous user itunes name. when open game many times asks itunes password guys acct. (game center crap).
also, previous jb'er had siri installed , lots of other root file (i assume) apps in cydia.
tried remove cydia files, , many say, warning - deleting fle may corrupt cydia or os.
there way 'clean' ipad , keep 5.0.1? or can me systematically remove of these apps in safe way. see terminal , ssh, worry me security. not use programs.
i'm working on getting factory 'fresh' ipad 5.0.1 if jb option, how can make ipad safe , less corruptible? ipad operates fine otherwise , syncs ok itunes acct. i'm wary security , causing crash , needing restore to5.1 - thanks.
 

open cydia. delete every tweak except applist, apt 0.7, bug fix: duplicate icons, bug fix: stuck pages, cydia installer, cydia translations, default hd sbsettings, erica utilities, gui-gpg-sec, mobile substrate, sbsettings, source gui, springboardaccess, , substrate safe mode.

hopefully, have ifile installed well. don't delete either. use ifile, go var/mobile/applications , var/stash/applications , ensure there isn't strange applications residing there.

may have folder called var/stash/themes. there winterboard themes stuck in there. can choose delete these well. , when done, empty trash in ifile. check settings, trash hidden. cheers.

p.s. itunes, sure there way wipe file in question via ifile or alter it, ipad thinks fresh user. don't know off top of head. sorry.

i use pdf provider, works great. 6.99, there cheaper non-pro version doesn't have pdf merging option.

Trade battery longevity for weight?


as type ipad 3, can't think have traded 1 hour of battery life keeping weight same ipad 2. have both next me right , despite difference between 2 being small, ipad 2 weight feels more comfy. agree?

LTE. AT&T or Verizon?


ok have been reading speed tests , how fast vzw looking network biggest coverage. have been using 4g coverage app overlays both networks. yes vzw has biggest lte coverage at&t has bigger 4g (hspa 3g on steroids) coverage. crazy pick at&t because of this. rather have vzw 3g. vzw feels or nothing , at&t feels , sometime great.

thing at&t better investment in future since started there lte network or think vzw expand there's faster cover of there 3g areas?

live in crofton md has strong at&t 4g speeds of 5 -7 mbps. in dc it's full range lte 7 - 30 mbps. depending sever pick on speed test.

come on at&t fans sell me.
 

i'm going turn around , say: if coverage identical in areas go to, data plan need?

switched verizon ipad because don't need data, 250mb at&t base plan bullsht. $20/1gb verizon more attuned needs. if need more 2gb yet under 3gb, at&t better choice.

phones on at&t , i've been happy them. coverage in areas frequent. (but fair, never go store , if call customer service routed business customer care due fan/company discount , people have clue)

How To Sync Videos From iTunes To iPad?


man, should not difficult.

bought wife new ipad , copied photos , videos ipad 2 folder on pc. using apple id, set own id , pointed itunes folder photos , videos. photos synced fine videos not in sight. also, videos showing in itunes movies.

have searched several hours , can't find answer.

iPad voice dictation FAQ?


does know if there's faw somewhere explains of new voice dictation commands? don't have iphone, i'm not sure if same on ipad or not.

know can things "period", "exclamation point", "comma", "new paragraph", "at sign", etc.... i'd know if there's list of works?

here's example of 1 i'm trying work without success. make lists appear this:

1. sentence number one.

2. sentence number two.

can write "1" instead of "one" saying "one dot". don't know how spaces between number , start of sentence.

if "one dot space sentence" this:

"1.space sentence" guess doesn't recognize spaces.

if without space, this: "one dot sentence" this:

"1.sentence" doesn't automatically put space or 2 in there. there way space somehow?

what's best material cut strip , stick of ipad case (like incipio smart feather, belkin snap case, etc) when smart cover folded magnets stick strip?

benefit me using case without built in strip.

Recording audio via USB


ok i've searched can't find answer this...

i've ordered camera connection kit , want record lp's onto ipad can play them in car. these old bits of vynl not available on cd. know need connect hi if? rca usb?

camera connection kit gives usb port on ipad. can hook usb mic , vastly improve quality of recording.

ripping vinyl little more involved. you'll need either external usb sound card rca audio inputs or usb turntable. have better turntable available usb, arguably easier use custom made purpose pursuing.

my company looking new ipad(3). else going using work purposes?
has been useful using ipad 2?
drive lot work, , having laptop along not working me. toughbook, heavy , not user friendly on side of road.
 

i use ipad work. i'm phd student , instructor in mathematics. of research notebooks , lecture notes courses teach kept on ipad. use compile interactive sets of notes students. think useful tool in these respects.

in addition above uses use write code when i'm away laptop, latex or matlab code, have used python , c script composition well.

great device reading , annotating pdfs.

don't know work plan it, find indispensable tool.

purchased new ipad, it's on way, , i'm looking make wallpaper it.

online says it's display 2048 (h) x 1536 (w) ppi of 264.

now, saying it's 2048 x 1536 means you're holding horizontally, i'll using of time, vertically, mean should create wallpapers @ 1536 x 2048 (as it's listed in photoshop horizontal first , vertical)?

Are u noticing any difference in BATTERY LIFE w/ 5.1??


so far, have not noticed difference in battery life os 5.1 on iphone 4s..what missing here? pretty same if not worse.. possible phone came w/ battery @ lower capacity? end of day, phone down 10-15 percent, , talk not 10 mins on it...

unfortunately not.

came android world droid x , got 2 days (easy) on battery (typical work use - no gaming, videos, etc.). i'm apple fan (love mbp) thought give iphone try. overall, i'm disappointed. battery on mind now. while @ work plug in. while in car plug in. while @ home plug in. can have charged phone @ 8pm , wake in morning either dead or dead phone. took in 'genius' bar , ran sorts of tests on phone , told me fine. proceeded tell me turn off had on because killing battery. pretty reduced phone black berry device :eek: gave go no such luck. same behavior. said if didn't work factory reset phone. same behavior.

sorry rant. commenting on point of thread - no, see no improvements @ all. think 'battery improvement' release note thrown on updates standard 'fix'. if improving battery life why don't tell changed can target in our usage. never see you?

"Unable to check for update" in just 1 device


hey guys. i'm getting message while trying update ota in iphone 4.
in fiance's 4s , in ipad 2 update works fine, under same wifi network.

i've tried:
- resetting power , home button
- resetting network configs
- setting dns google (8.8.8.8) , opendns in wifi settings , in router

ideas what's going on?

able update wife's verizon 4s not verizon 4. frustrating!

i know happened ipods never drastically more same music player redesign.

iphone , ipad huge paradigm shifts in features , differences.

started ipad (1), ipad 2, , ditched numbering after 2.

maybe have momentum don't have number things anymore people excited "newness" , status.
 

it's time dropped number ... there nothing revolutionary new iphones or ipads - incremental upgrades.

Apple TVs sold


just sold 3 apple tv 2s on ebay $75 each (one buyer bought three).

assuming new apple tvs $99 each, total cost upgrade 3 apple tvs (after factoring in ebay fees, shipping, etc.) $103.

not bad deal - use these apple tvs on daily basis , forward whatever upgrades in store. wish list:

*1080p
*better video rendering performance - when watch hd movies, scenes movement can jerky on 55" lcd. i'm assuming hardware limitation?
*app store (although i'm 99% sure available atv2 well).
*improved airplay (particularly airplay mirroring in os x mountain lion).

if couple of these features (plus whatever else apple has in store), $100 great deal upgrade whole house....

now, chances can buy 3 on launch day?? remember atv2s out of stock quite few weeks.....

Speck cases are useless!


i got new macbook pro in december, , knew need case protect investment. found speck hardshell case great choice. i've read ton of stories of people had , saved macbook when dropped it. read story on apple's site got in car accident , macbook spotless because of case.

got case few days after got macbook. took damp wash cloth clean macbook (avoiding ports , other exposed areas, of course) , dried off, did same case, no dirt trapped inside of it. put on , impressed! barely weighed down , glad still see gorgeous brushed aluminum unibody because chose clear case.

, few days ago decided i'd use without case because @ home , wanted see felt again. thought i'd check see how nice , spotless looked after months of use because of case. horror, wasn't case @ all.

first thing noticed slight mark on front side.

not big deal. annoying it's not major.

took @ lid.

found 3 'pinhole' (?) marks near bottom of it.

how in hell did happen?


thing pissed me off, dent.

why? how?


not once did ever drop macbook, maybe light toss of on bed would've hit bottom anyway (which way, has no marks @ all). why these marks happen? can understand dirt getting caught in when took off there nothing cause 3 holes or dent, , shouldn't have clean dirt out of every 2 weeks keep marks happening.

bought solely protect macbook, in better condition if never put case on anyway!

there can this? doubt speck help, don't see how it's fault when product paid $50 didn't advertised.

else owns 1 of these, careful.
 

i've used speck cases. never had problem. flat, dent caused sharp , heavy... have clean them once month prevent scratches i've never had chips. used them since pre-unibody mbp days without incident. have had better luck satin models, however, in regard cracking , scratching far superior.

Sprint Upgrade End of March. Getting iPhone.


ok upgrade sprint coming , getting iphone 4 rid of crappy samsung moment! lol know features of iphone , iphone , phones in general, phone make difference when web browsing or data connectivity in general? samsung moment has data lock ups, ocassionaly slow load etc. guess asking how phone , how carrier when these problems occur? (sprint in case)
not fond of android anyway. :apple:
 

the iphone has 1 of best mobile browsers , should perform better samsung. safari on ios awesome , similar osx safari, happy experience overall. should not have data lock ups unless data hog , lock carrier throttling usage if there nothing can that.

Clamshell Mode Broken on 10.7.3?


so updated mba 10.7.3 yesterday. today when normal routine of plugging sleeping air external display , usb keyboard/mouse no longer works correctly.

air wakes up, turns on internal screen though lid closed, external becomes secondary display. if open lid , close again nothing, internal display still keeps primary though off.

also, seems has issues auto-detecting displays. if unplug external display lid open doesn't blank screen adjust resolution, , mouse can still go onto nonexistent display. way fix going display settings , hitting detect displays.

basically, no matter air thinks internal display should on.

else having these issues? searched , found thread on it, 10.7.2, working me.

Copy entire hard drive?


i have 2 tb usb hard drive formatted hfs+ full files , want clone/duplicate every file on hard drive 2 tb usb hard drive formatted ntfs.

have paragon ntfs mac , can read/write ntfs but, copy data going take forever. there easier way clone drive , keep format of 1 hfs+ while leaving other ntfs?
 

carbon copy cloner can backup files, except system files, drive. backup system files , make bootable clone, backup volume must hfs+ formatted.

iMac Video Card Dead?


taking @ friend's broke imac - white 24" - can't place model. emc 2111 best can pull off case. entering serial @ apple says 24" imac, no year, nothing.

after tons of testing i've figured out following...

1. screen boots grey, apple logo spinning loading circle, light blue. cursor stuck in upper right hand corner. screen stays blue. there's visual artifacts on screen - stuck pixels.

2. got bright idea plug in external monitor. once booted see lit black screen pixels artifacted, they're stuck - not 1 or 20 or 50, 100s, maybe 1,000. can move mouse cursor screen screen. cursor stuck in upper left hand corner of imac built in screen still stuck there.

3. external monitor plugged in can make os x make error *dong* sounds. i'm assuming i'm booted os x , looking @ desktop video card refusing refresh/display graphics.

video card dead / dying? suggestions? don't have installation media boot , attempt hardware test - typing refurb lion came 0 media. attached photos: blue monitor imac, black = external.

the last time new white 24" imacs sold mid 2007 (if i'm reading things correctly). anyway, it's either corrupted os install or video issue. need find bootable os x dvd work on system find out. sure.

Switching Programs - How do you do it?


hey all,

work on both windows machines , macs right now. home computer mac , work on windows @ office. right still kind of feel more done faster in windows after few months.

couple items make windows more efficient me alt+tab program switch along "desktop mouse shake" in win7. , maybe i'm doing wrong in osx?

alt+tab - know works in osx, what's not functioning same way in windows, alt+tab switches between that's open. in osx switches between program types (like if have 4 windows open in chrome, it'll go open instance of chrome instead of switching between them). i've got right click or use mission control.

doing wrong? there way adjust it?

, desktop shake - many times need on desktop , open folder or something, , in windows can grab window , shake , it'll minimize window, or can win+d , it'll go desktop.

in osx, can make desktop appear , move windows, if example open folder, osx brings windows, totally defeats function of getting desktop.

i'm kind of seeking out how other people have made adjustment or if got used not having of tools. or maybe there tips or tricks don't know about.

Plugged in but says not charging.


i have 15 inch used mac book pro , i'm comfortable it's still new me. question charger.

when plug in, orange light comes on says it's not charging. see pic: [​img]
as can see, it's plugged in says not charging.

after minute, changes this:

89% 19 minutes battery life??

however, if unplug charger, changes this:

now have 2 hours , 25 minutes of battery life.


i've unplugged charger, shut down computer, took out , reinserted battery nothing changed.

are apple store employees allowed have phones jailbroken? i've visited store several times , witnessed numerous employees using iphones , ipod touches jailbroken. apple this?

here's idea thread. reply apple must put in new ipad in order buy it.

1. higher-res display. not retina display, enough if want remote desktop desktop isn't squished.

2. quad-core processor.

3. 10 hour battery life. think 1 given.

more ram nice, don't consider deal breaker if 512mbs included ipad 3.

Does anyone else get a little animation lag when switching between open apps?


anytime have different apps open in full screen , switch between them, animation lags little. doesn't happen time. 70% of time, animation pretty smooth. , happens when have macbook pro connected external display. else experiences this??
 

animation me (on external copy of lion) pretty smooth. wish turn animations off. eyes go batty cmb+tab multiple times between apps.

Problem with audio while playing sounds in several user accounts


mac os x 10.6.8, mac pro 8x2.26, internal soundcard's linear output used.

there 2 user accounts in os. if 1 user opens browser (safari , opera tested) , loads page sounds (e. g. youtube) , plays sound , switch other user's account, there won't sound audiocard, system's.

if switch first user, sound appears moment while switching.

if stop sound playback in first user's account, second user able play sounds.

problem appears non-web applications, e. g. vlc, not always.

p. s. there pcie soundcard installed in system. hasn't problems.

p. p. s. sorry barely understandable english.

Wanted to share this Alarm program as it was in action today


hey all, not trying "promote" program but...

wanted share free alarm program ialertu prevented theft today me. activated motion sensor macbook.

know should never leave laptops , valuables unattended there occasions have abruptly leave washroom, phone call or leave few seconds.

arm/disarm use remote button or if don't have remote, arm click on desktop arm , disarm type in password on keyboard. can set "force maximum sound" automatically sound loud can if computer on mute before or @ minimum volume. takes picture right away before thief can close lid , send email.

remember set password in preferences panel.

today @ library , had go washroom go often. left program on , when came washroom there huge crowd alarm ringing @ maximum volume. guy @ table trying put in bag while thing ringing , drew huge crowd , people sitting nearby recognized not owner cornered him until came back.

great little application!
 

good know, wouldn't holding power button shut mac off shut alarm off?

Why slow in browsing in mobile?

the iphone doesn't display flash animation. low speed may due poor 3g signal.

i connected university's network through vpn personal computer. websites routed through servers. many people connect , use network.

forgot turn vpn off , went xxx website. watched video on megavideo. realized vpn on , turned off.

question is, can automated system determine did , person go ahead , click link see video?

Resolved Cydia Update Removed Corona 5.0.1 Untether


the title says all, really. updated app in cydia without paying close attention , cydia uninstalled corona 5.0.1 untether! phone boots lock screen , resprings. ideas?

update 1: though springboard keeps crashing, have continuous access file system on usb (thanks afc2!). there's way install on usb.

update 2: ih8sn0w himself has offered me. waiting him have free minute.

update 3: reason cydia uninstalled corona untether had edited systemversion.plist install software had been build unnecessary 5.1 requirement. don't that. cydia randomly decide corona incompatible os version , uninstall it.
 

in case interested, ih8sn0w did manual install of corona on phone on afc2 using ifunbox. how worked: can't copy them on /usr/share/corona because afcd create files 644 permissions , kernel payload needs execution permissions. found files had 755 permissions in /user/share, renamed corona files match, , overwrote them (in case had nano installed, overwrote of files). renamed them corona filenames , moved them /user/share/corona. reboot , it's untethered. reinstall corona untether , mobile substrate , whatever overwrote (in case, nano). voila: have jailbreak tweaks , cydia apps intact.

please note: don't unless familiar jailbreak. have sure use right payload firmware, , 9a405/9a406 make huge difference. mess , wan't able boot fix it.

time-consuming process, , thank him time.

AirPlaying Modern Combat 3 only uses 1/4th of tv screen...?


hi all...long time lurker, first time poster.

ipad 3, apple tv 3, modern combat 3. (always in 3's, right)

i've searched googlewebs , forums, no 1 seems have answer one.

when airplay game apple tv, using ipad controller, image takes bottom left quarter of tv screen.

other that, plays perfectly....no lag.

in getting thing going fullscreen appreciated.

that's odd, i'm afraid haven't experienced that. problem mirroring miss trigger when i'm looking @ tv.

internal dust/dirt


how dirty macbook pro's internally? have 2008 macbook pro 15 inch. if pretty dirty, apple have kind of cleaning service or know of services besides best buy. don't trust myself open computer , clean it.

edit: there way remove keyboard without having open whole thing?
 

depends on environment, apple typically doesn't clean computer you. need take off cover , blow compressed air small spaces.

Resolved Fan control on iMac early 2008?


hi!

bought 20" 2008 imac (2.66 c2d, 4gb ram) mere 200 bucks because had weird fan control issues. loaded lion onto , istat widget, reports this:

can see, cpu fan has gone ape feces/excrement/poo @ 3900 rpm, while hdd fan spinning @ 1200 rpm. , hdd @ 40 degrees celsius while cpu @ 28. not logical!

i'm contemplating if it's worth try fan control program , try limit fan manually - though i've read can mess smc. i'm not super capable of handling terminal , such , makes me think not greatest of ideas.

thoughts/recommendations? try hardware test , update post later results.

update: found solution on forums. unfortunately, i'll have manage fans semi-manually on.

1. download smcfancontrol , install.
2. download view attachment fan control.zip - folder of automator apps workflows tells smcfancontrol driver through terminal set new max fan speed. included 1200, 1500, 2500 , default 3900 rpm. click 1 when fans unbearable, , use smcfancontrol in menu bar report cpu temp, can run automator apps accordingly.

(need speed? take desired rpm times 4 , feed here: http://www.statman.info/conversions/hexadecimal.html, run automator , make workflow app paste in http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=5266108&postcount=144 via utilities > run shell script. delete "cat". save new automator workflow name of rpm limit.)

Wait for the new iphone or get the new HTC one now?


i need make quick decision because dad coming on trip , can buy htc 1 x or htc 1 s me.


right have iphone 4. , main problem size of screen. reading lot of ebooks lately. @ home use laptop when away i'd have on iphone , tiny screen causes lot of fatigue.

thinking new phone big screen , high resolution.


htc 1 s has 4.3" screen resolution 960x540. improvement on current iphone 4. don't want 1 x screen 4.7" resolution of 1280x720. thats can consider.


should wait next iphone? oh btw prefer mbp15&phone 4.3+" on mbp15 + ipad + iphone. i'd keep simple , have 2 devices.

On Live Desktop for Ipad


my local multiple listing service uses internet explorer. subscribed onlive desktop, monthly paid service. downloaded ipad app. works extremely well. can use internet explorer on ipad , works touch inputs!!! can setup bunch of "favorites" , go between url's. fantastic app , service.
 

i downloaded today, i'm on free service now. did upgrade $4.99/month? have tested adobe flash on ipad? run smoothly? thanks.
