iPhone stuck at the apple logo

the iphone 3gs got stuck while playing music, pressing home button wasn't closing ipod app , neither pressing on power button brought slide shutdown. pressed both power , home button few seconds , guess put in dfu mode , when start iphone stuck @ apple logo, how restart without losing contents on iphone.

3gs running 5.0.1 , never been jailbroken.

 

when hit power & home button, did hold until phone shut down on it's own , not release until apple logo reappeared?
