"Recovery" partition not a replacement for discs???

this week old apple store refurb, mid-2011 model came lion 10.7.2. made erased partition in half of drive snow leopard install realize don't need. trying bring normal "recovery" method since apple supplies no discs now. lot apple.

still have recovery partition, found terminal command gave somewhere , saw being moved when partitioning.

under impression built-in recovery partition apple's alternative supplying discs now. so, if there's need re-install or repair, there ready use. apple says in http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
"built right os x lion, lion recovery lets repair disks or reinstall os x lion without need physical install disc. since lion recovery built mac, it’s there when need it." okay, sounds great far.

on apple's support page http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718 apple says internet connection needed, (whoa, wait minute, why, if recovery has it???). says in next section, "lion internet recovery", internet used, "if happen encounter situation in cannot start recovery hd..." sounds me don't need internet, system running fine.

there's lot of contradicting ambiguous info out there , appears maybe have download lion apple's servers?? makes no sense, recovery not having discs @ then. did command-r start-up instructed , did direct me 57 hour download high speed dsl?! you've got kidding me. ain't so, crazy.

help.

sorry, it's so. recovery partition tiny one, few tools, not contain whats needed reinstall os x scratch.

noticed, that's download now.
