Can't turn book syncing Off

i bought 2 ipads parents, , i've been having problems turning off books syncing. problem when mom or dad downloads book, shows on other ipad. tried unchecking "sync books" checkbox in itunes under ipads, when sync ipad in itunes, re-checks , i'm square one. have ideas or suggestions? thank!

 

on ipad select settings -> ibooks -> off sync bookmarks , sync collections. if using same itunes account on both ipads might fix problem.
