Airport extreme and external hardrive???

i know been asked before can't find specifics this...

airport extreme external drive connected. how open itunes movies , keep open time? possible do?
or possible access itunes on other hard drive via sharing macpro can manually play them computer instead of scrolling through movies in appletv?

 

usb hdd -> airport extreme -> mac -> atv.....how?
