USB hub for MBA 11" connected to external display

i going thunderbolt display use 11" mba main desktop computer, i'm impressed wife's samsumg 24" monitor , figured 1 of mba , save myself £700!

(i'm assuming i've read mba specs correctly , thunderbolt port power non-apple monitor via dvi - samsung has res of 1920 x 1080).

best recommendations usb hub, then? have mba in 1 of metal upright stands (i can't remember name, it's curve of metal holds machine upright), , need more usb ports. have powered usb hub, it's nasty little plastic thing doesn't sit flat.

suggestions? various companies used make mac-like hubs sit underneath mac mini or similar, can't find online.

i have 24" samsung display, , mine hooked 2011 mba through thunderbolt port - have no difficulty there. sorry don't have recommendations on usb hub, have no experience any.
