need some advice on mbp

so film student , pretty decided buy base model mbp 13, student discount thats £860($1347)- can afford, use hd video editing(dslr) in fcp x , colour correction not heavy graphics work although adobe after effects cs5 or 5.5 , magic bullet.
quad core preferable cannot afford more expensive models. best way bump speed cheaply- 8 gb of ram crucial? im wondering if graphics card enough, surely processor enough?
im wondering is- can build laptop pc specialist same money quad i7 processor , 8gb of ram plus ssd , maybe better graphics card , hesistant if mac book pro right choice @ price point.

advice appreciated....

for 1 thing students overestimate need processing power.
want decent pro level hardware stuff set in exercises isn't demanding stuff , teachers need account kinds of people worse hardware. if there demanding stuff can use university computers.

there cheaper pc notebooks quads , way cheaper desktop pc. latter can more powerful less money.

think though won't need speed think. doesn't hurt isn't necessary. unlike pro have more enough time render , encode. don't have many jobs do.
studying wouldn't base whole purchase on speed requirements.

there other reasons windows notebooks. cheaper (for similar or better performance) , windows 8 seems step forward while apple seems make steps lion & co. not sure osx best platform in general sense. gaming , general performance on windows still better.
notebooks below 1000$ rather crappy compared mbp though. bad display panels, worse touchpads, other things depend on model.
