MacBook Air (Mid-2009) Startup Issue

hello!

i've got macbook air (mid-2009) running lion. yesterday, returned laptop , noticed frozen. went ahead , force restarted holding down power button , hoped fine. after that, has continued stuck on apple boot screen loading icon continuing spin.

took laptop "genius bar" , did diagnostic , seemed working fine. told me needed new hard drive, however, happened in november , wiped hard drive , problem cleared. (of course, lost of information.)

able boot recovery disk via holding down "option" key during bootup. (i'm running safari through mode.) i've repaired permissions , disk , appears ok. however, problem continues persist.

have option of reinstalling lion or restoring backup via time machine. don't have time capsule considering purchasing 1 tomorrow because i've wanted one.

there way backup hard drive, bypassing issue i'm having? or somehow being able backup hard drive while in recovery mode after purhcasing time capsule?

input! hoping there solution aside reinstalling lion completely!

 

yes. buy cheap usb external hdd, backup using tm. re-install lion want, restore data via external drive.

if genius says hdd bad, though.
