iBooks Author - tips & tricks

hi everyone. i've never made thread apologies if don't follow correct protocol. if people experimenting ibooks author (iba?) wondered if collate tips , tricks here, there aren't lot of resources elsewhere (apart apple's own pages). iwork users going feel @ home straight away, although spotted few differences too. here's things found far...

• if want see how each template behaves on ipad, seems can have 4 proofs @ time (before overwritten), you'll need sync them via itunes if want able refer templates on ipad time time.
  
• be aware if edit layout of chapter front page, changes not affect way each chapter introduced on ipad - layout reverts default. tried make 'digital flier' looked textbook again when on ipad (not surprising, understand!)
  
• there lot of default styles in each template. don't put off. if tweak text, right-click on style in list (selected , red triangle) , select 'redefine style selection'. text in widgets when add new widgets new styles.
  
• iwork stalwarts such mask image , instant alpha aren't listed in menus if customise toolbar (right-click on toolbar) can add these commands toolbar. annoyingly, can't 'use small icons' in other apps (i hope isn't new dumbing down trend apple - literally first thing tried when first opened app!)
  
• if layout in landscape, can disable portrait entirely checking box in document inspector (document tab).
  
• the level of control provided iwork toolset comprehensive parts of widgets, controls ghosted out (for example line , fill of labels in interactive image widget).
  
• the fonts shown in toolbar ones seem supported on ipad.
  
• if trying produce simple no chapters, set first chapter preface clicking pop-up menu page thumbnail. means ibook won't chapter 1 on ipad.
  
• if edit bits of template , want them reflected in subsequent usage of bit, select changed object , go format > advanced > update object current layout.
  
• if struggling find video import, open movie in quicktime player , export itunes or location on drive, selecting ipad compatible format.
  
• if export pdf each landscape page surrounded box itunes author written underneath. there can crop multiple pdf pages? i'm not sure preview more. incidentally, slideshows , other widgets show image visible in iba @ time of exporting.
  
• i made simple rss widget in dashcode (from xcode tools) , transferred ipad no active web content. i'm not sure possible. no google maps, etc?

• the keynote import neat. imported quite complex documents , builds dynamic. seems utilise keynote convert html engine. assume there limits type of build , transition haven't done thorough study yet.
