2011 Quad Core Macbook Pro v 2010-2011 Quad Core Mac Pro

i have simple question (i think). mac pro (either 3.2 quad core or last year's 2.66 quad core) going faster @ multi-tasking , data hosting (?) 2011 quad core macbook pro? know that may inane question, i've read processor speed, 1066 v 1333 ram, hex core being outperformed six-core , quad core, , lack of multi-processor benefit existing application cannot come straight conclusion. caveat: know mac pro machine hard core editing professionals , editing photos , videos requires lot of power - kind of power others not need , never (not in near term, @ least) use.

multitasking mean: virtual machines, having 15 tabs @ time open research purposes, flash videos (webinars , training), adobe acrobat, ps cs5, dreamweaver, pages, numbers, itunes, filemaker pro, preview, etc (that have open now). using computer server allow access documents (and possibly programs).

disinclined go imac (no particular reason - know cost less mac pro, not factor here). unless apple release new mac pro inn next 6-8 weeks, cannot wait , buy new 1 or refurbed one.

opinions appreciated. tia.

hex six, think mean octo core being outperformed hex , quad, right?

if math on various processors, can see faster what, roughly. (3.33x6=19.98, 2.4x8=19.2, etc.) can weigh in how various programs use one, two, 4 threads , on, , how single-threaded hex(6)-cores turbo boost 3.6ghz, , through can figure out outcome might like. also, lots of bench tests peruse. wonderful fun! :)

cutting through that, think laptop can handle "virtual machines, having 15 tabs @ time open research purposes, flash videos (webinars , training), adobe acrobat, ps cs5, dreamweaver, pages, numbers, itunes, filemaker pro, preview, etc (that have open now). using computer server allow access documents (and possibly programs)." matter ram on cores, in opinion. found editing video using premiere , after effects requires 26gb of ram. had pageouts , issues 16gb went away 32gb. mind you, that's running cs5 pr, ae, ps, firefox, maybe itunes sometimes, preview, , various little things geektool, hardware monitor , audiogalaxy. pr , ae huge ram eaters, , may along fine way less.

that's input.
