External Drives not showing up

on desktop, not there. did go finder/pref/checked external disks

no go

seen in finder window , can access them. however, not showing on desktop. used there

i assume checked on general tab, , not sidebar tab in finder preferences. strange wouldn't show up. did try relaunching finder?
