ok guitar player , have been using garageband few months recording tracks , songs.
have been downloading backing tracks off net ( bass , drums ) , dropping them garageband , adding guitar tracks. works , fun want start recording own song ideas.
not looking add crazy style bass playing or drums, basic stuff give me work , play to. started messing around adding software track, , found out how play/add drums, bass etc.
basic, works me , great starters. prefer using keyboard play instruments rather programming piece of software, plus trying learn half software out there not looking forward to. ( hardly know midi ) .. came using old 4 track recorder , drum machine use sticks play.
anyways, said. have been doing reading , if understand correctly can use midi controller? or midi device allow me trigger or play drums , bass in garageband? pretty device works regular mac keyboard using, bit more bigger keys? or more made playing software instruments with?
not sure need, guessing , saying midi keyboard? plug in imac , keyboard keys each have own drum sound, correct? read connect rockback drum controller mac , use play drums within garageband.
curious if me out need , advice , not.
said, play guitar , use software instruments within garageband ( bass , drums ) , prefer play them real-time rather them programming them play pattern.
thanks.
first off, keep simple, whatever decide stick midi controller uses usb cable connect mac. if not, need use midi cables, requires midi interface or combined audio/midi interface connected computer usb cables or more commonly firewire cables.
options midi controllers include:
1. touch sensitive pads (most common drums).
2. midi controller keyboard (also common drums, still useful other sounds means more money down line, more difficult play drums on pads. still not difficult play drums on though).
(keep in mind midi controller. doesn't make sounds without being connected computer, track selected in software, , software instrument assigned track).
if still need clarification on midi and/or audio (what , differences between them) let me know , i'll explain more on that.
touch sensitive pads, best native instruments maschine, extremely expensive. offer maschine mikro now, more affordable. native instruments same company makes guitarrig, if you're guitar player i'm sure familiar , if aren't may want it. programs (software comes maschine hardware) user friendly , there's nothing youtube video can't solve. maschine maschine mikro
maschine products come sized library of drum sounds. can run in daw, such garageband, , stand alone. works live or studio recording.
many people swear akai pads. not 1 of them. have owned 1 before , sold it.
if you're looking cheap/affordable search ebay, craigslist, amazon, etc. can find older model midi pad controllers $100 or less easily.
far midi controller keyboards go, stick cheap m-audio 49 key. reason need more expensive 1 if wanted 1 had touch sensitive pads, knobs, and/or faders.
m audio 49 key
more expensive midi controller keyboard pads, knobs, , faders
other questions, let me know. i'll subscribe thread , check back. if really, need song can send garageband project logic user , can open project files , further enhance them in logic. if garageband , looking further recording @ logic first.
way, don't buy best buy, guitar center, etc. unless have to. used gear first or open box gear. more music more you'll spending , adds fast. start saving can beginning.
recommend video midi clarification: youtube midi video
