Review: Twelve South HoverBar

so few days ago got email ad twelve south's new hoverbar. have admit marketing got me , touched inner geek:

hoverbar connects ipad 2 mac, creating dynamic duo. awesome, tony stark - inspired, desktop workstation beautiful apple display , killer touchscreen computer hanging side. hoverbar presents more ways use ipad more often. collaborate on project facetime, monitor weather , interact favorite apps. hoverbar rescues ipad computer bag. ​

hoverbar designed clamp of current generation of apple displays. ca clamp isn't more 1" in width. don't have apple display, i've got pretty nice lg ips screen, without thought of how i'd use such thing hoverbar, plopped down $80 , ordered one. hoverbar arrived via brown suited santa (ups) 2 days later. here is:



other twelve south products i've seen/owned, hoverbar extremely made. clamp rubber-lined solid block of aluminum oversize machine screw torquing down on whatever decide clamp to. of clamp hidden away underneath desk. it's got 2 mounting holes arm, can change angle 90 degrees if choose.



ipad (sans case) snaps lightweight plastic bracket in turn secured gooseneck arm via ball , socket interface.




there, can adjust tension of ball/socket using threaded collar on of contraption.

hoverbar comes 4 plastic clamps can use route cables gooseneck arm. unfortunately, can see these getting lost unless you're gentle cables set in channel. think twelve south have done better job these.

1 thing note ipad oscillates when touch it. don't think there's twelve south can this, because you're putting ipad on end of 18" flexible arm. if you're doing doing heavy typing, use keyboard. find myself having use gentle touch on ipad when doing whatever on while mounted in hoverbar. not showstopper me, though.

in all, hoverbar pretty cool accessory if don't mind plunking down cash. use ipad referencing ton of various regulations @ work, may transfer hoverbar office that. have been awesome have when working on thesis, since have put references on ipad , kept hacking away @ work on computer. facetime. mostly, however, it's neato way keep ipad off desk.



pros: built, unique mounting solution, frees desk space
cons: poorly designed cable management, ipad must come out of case (if used)
