Ho to access an iPod touch that I was given? (Passlocked)

ok, don't want hear calling police or trying track down owner, i'm not going to. roommate had guy visit , left ipod touch @ our house , guess had huge blow out. suffice never got back, or ever spoke again. year ago.

news when moved nevada, ended giving me ipod touch (cause wasn't gonna give him). well, it's password lock , attempts far have proved fruitless.

have tried redsn0w, , hasn't worked. i've tried recovery mode, itunes won't let me because it's not same laptop last used (before being locked out).

feel using itunes part of prove pointless. there possible way complete wipe of ipod touch without resorting itunes?
