Macbook Pro taking ages to copy files to an external drive

my macbook pros hard drive full have decided copy iphoto library external drive.
100gbs , saying going take 2 days copy!
why this? know drive usb 2.0 shot;dot tale long, has been copying around 10mins , @ 446mbs!

don't worry, it's not going take 2 days. software progress bars biggest liars in world. apple's progress bars , time completion start high , substantially lower task moves along. it'll take 2 hours copy 100 gb on usb 2.0.
