Use a USB as a Hard Drive???

i know if can use 8 gb usb disk, reformatted mac os extended (journaled) install mac os x. have leopard, , love it, want see if it'll work. think i'll have is...

1. reformat 8gb usb mac os extended (journaled)
2. insert install dvd
2. install tiger on connected usb
3. boot it.

can this? have tiger install dvd.

 

yup, sure can. won't fast if on internal hdd
