Restoring iPhone 3GS to older firmware

i did search not sure if phrased search correctly, apologies in advance if there easy answer this.

basically, i'm on 4.0.1 jb , have shsh blobs 3.1.3 way using saurik's method.

but, need take phone in apple see if replace it. if don't (since it's out of warranty), i'd stay on lower ios version, 4.3.3, if possible.

since it's been on year since jb, can't remember details. i'm guessing should download older firmware, , shift (or alt) restore in itunes.

question: if this, able take in apple store clean/non-jb phone, or need clean restore , upgrade?

apple still signs 4.1 fw on 3gs. so, can restore firmware. said, shift + restore , point 4.1 restore phone factory setting.
