Startup to Disk Utilities?

whenever boot mac pro, undergoes odd two-step process.

first step takes long time, scary "white screen of death" 30 seconds. starts boot normally, goes disk utilities.

there hit quit, select main startup disk, , reboots normally.

suspect have leftover install bits or something? look?

 

what os version , other info answer this.
