One IMAP account, two Macs, possible? How?

i have 2 macs same user account cloned on both. unix shortname same on both file permissions play nice when using firewire target disk mode manual copying , syncing chronosync.

when tried using apple mail on both machines access same imap account, split emails between both. emails download 1 mac , download other.

there way around this??

workaround have gmail forward mail second account. not ideal, because when people respond emails sent mac uses secondary account, replies go mac not other!

there way use 1 imap account 2 macs have same shortname, , not have split emails go each?

willing ditch gmail, if there's imap service problem not occur. thanks,

ps -- i'm on latest 10.6.x.

your unix user name should have nothing retrieving imap mail. think have else going on here. should able check , send mail multiple clients attached same imap account, regardless of mac account's user name.

sure mail program set use imap , 1 isn't using pop?
