Verizon to Require 4G LTE Compatibility for 'All' Future Smartphones

cnet yesterday reported verizon has announced "hard requirement" future smartphones released on carrier support 4g lte technology faster data speeds. requirement has naturally led speculation carrier has confirmed iphone 5 support lte, had been assumed , rumored.

verizon's statement does, however, come minor catch, there reportedly occasional exceptions lte requirement, although exceptions seem planned carrier's push-to-talk business.

the report notes verizon leads pack among u.s. carriers when comes lte deployment, covering 200 million people in 190 markets plans complete buildout end of next year. unsurprisingly, verizon seeking use lead in lte advantage pushing users onto devices offering faster speeds.
