Can I run a DP/DVI monitor and a FW drive w/o TBD?

i realized might have monkey wrench in purchase plans. shhh, don't tell friend - he's been chanting "mini, mini, mini" @ me week now. hmph.

have no intention of buying apple thunderbolt display. can't run big glossy screen in office area, , have vision issues make them difficult in perfect conditions. , no, can't move office - i'm stuck 39"x59.5" west facing window directly behind - diagonal right behind desk, , west 1 behind , 6 feet left.

plan 11" mba plus dell u2312. connecting monitor won't problem, realized arsenal of fw400 drives wouldn't have connect (i have 3 fw , couple of usb2, fw can usb man, slowwwwww!).

announced belkin hub trick - announced , not shipping, , @ $299, well, mini plus display looking better solution now.

there current "cheap" solution - or sol moment , stuck mini retail purchase solution?!
