Data logos

if have mobile data or "cellular data" turned off via networks settings menu, still connected carriers 3g network, data disabled right?

if 3g logo disappears, how know if i'm connected 3g voice network or 2g?

think apple should still show 3g logo when mobile data turned off, maybe cross through or different colour indicate there in no data, still connected 3g network.
