AFP over WAN?

i'm using mbp media server, , i'm connecting via mba through afp (settings can found in "file sharing" tab in system preferences).

works fine if connecting locally, able connect on internet anywhere.

other problem mbp using dhcp , i'd rather not use vnc.

also, mbp running snow leopard , mba running lion, mac won't work.

 

configure mbp receive statically assigned ip address within network reserving mac address. done in router, , not impact mbp ability move other networks (i.e., still set dhcp, when in network same ip).

setup vpn solution. there lots choose from.

forward appropriate ports through router , firewalls statically assigned address.

have access system if there locally.

quick deploy vpn called hamachi , free , supports mac.

option remotely control mbp while on road, using logmein (free, mac friendly). allows control, no file transfer.

option use filezilla , setup ftp server... allows file transfer, no remote control,.==.
