Resolved Do I need to replace my battery?

i have jailbroken iphone 3gs. today using , ran out of batteries. think myself, no problem, can plug in. , do. computer not recognize usb , doesn't make little sound. iphone makes little symbol electricity , plug. borrow dad's charger. no luck. try rebooting computer. try hard reset , nothing seems work. after 4 hours of googling realize maybe should buy new battery. think work? please don't answer if have no clue.

also battery 18 months old. warranty long gone. ios 5.
