ipod 4 Gen screen dark but iPod still works

hi, have problem ipod touch. still works, charges , connects itunes fine. tried far:

- reset home button , on/off button ( when did see screen quick second , apple logo, looked )
- opened ipod see if there lose connections ( connections )

when unplug ipod charger or plug in screen again shows split second black. points connection problem or loose ?

i've seen in itouch before. either lcd replacement fix right up, or has gone terribly wrong logic board , may need goodbye ol touchy.

if itouch dying when unplug. sounds needs battery.

Is a Mac Mini right for me?

hi!

have used pcs until now, since love apple products (iphone, ipad, etc) , hate windows want switch. since don't have money buy imac, i'm thinking of buying 2.3 ghz mac mini.

i'm planning on using web browsing (with 20-30 tabs open of time), movie watching (in hd of time, guess work in quicktime or vlc regardless of format?), document editing , world of warcraft (i'm keeping settings on low or medium if necessary). (every couple of months) use photoshop or video editing tool. plan on buying more ram.

important thing me is reasonably fast when having lots of tabs open or using couple of apps @ once.

have 2 pcs , i'm wondering how faster/slower mac mini be:
desktop - amd phenom x3 8750, 4gb ram, radeon hd 4650
laptop - amd athlon 64 x2 ql-65, 3gb ram, radeon hd 3200

for world of warcraft, base mini awesome (especially memory upgrade). run world of warcraft, mid-mini amd 6630m better. however, sounds willing run on low settings should fine. have base mini 8gb of ram , ssd (upgraded myself). great job throw @ exception of excel (but when running heavy macros).

with mega millions jackpot @ $640 million, largest world has ever seen. in news , on streets "realists" chirping how they'd never buy ticket , basic math makes ticket buyers stupid.

if odds 1 in 175 million of hitting mega millions jackpot, buying $1 ticket have positive expected value particular prize?

Unable to setup Home Sharing

i entered username , password, , first time did it, entered wrong password , there not seem way submit username , password. tried rebooting it, though there not submit button after typing in both fields.

1. how activate home sharing after typing in both username , password?

2. after setting up, find shared music computer itunes on it?

under "music" in settings app there place enter apple id , password home sharing. if correct should see shared button in "more" tab in music app. itunes has opened , set , devices have on same network work.

also, if wireless router has filter multicast disabled may need enable work.

Problem with semi-homemade Windows installation disk

hello! windows installation disk have had while decides break itself. tried downloading windows onto imac via bootcamp, have run problem. error saying there missing or corrupt files on original disk. tried resolve problem getting .iso image microsoft setup of windows, , when installed use activation code have had since got disk.

but, here problem: homemade disk burned .iso files onto not recognized bootable drive. old windows disk was, dvd burned not. there way make bootable? checked dvd , have of files needs (i believe so, anyway), can't mac start using disk. tried hold option key, c key, , neither of functions worked trying boot it.

suggestions on should try , fix problem?

i have sony nex 5n. take jpeg large on camera. import full 16mp photos. love iphoto. wish there way export full resolution. right there isn't way export edited photo @ full res iphoto when export camera roll.

got flickring allows me edit , batch upload full res photos. got photo forge 2 allows edit , export full res photos camera roll , other places.

sucks. iphoto allows edit @ full resolution not export @ full resolution.

anyways setup allows me edit , upload without having use computer. full res stored on flickr.

No audio with EyeTV app

i have eyetv hybrid , i'm not getting audio in ipad 2, either recordings or live tv. other apps have audio fine , audio works when watching eyetv on mac mini. idea might causing it? dont see mute button in eyetv ipad software nor have preferences in system preferences on ipad.

edit: tried on iphone 4s , works fine. reinstalled eyetv software on ipad still doesn't work.

Save as PDF cuts off images

i'm trying use save pdf under pdf button in print dialog on os x 10.7.3. when file 8.5"x11" works fine. if try larger file, 11"x17" pdf 11x17, image area 8.5x11 in lower left corner else cutoff , white bar on top , right sides. ideas going wrong?

if movie files encoded dts, see no reason device wouldn't able pass dts bitstream software update. of now, don't see lossless codecs being available via download. file size large.

unless of course thinking streaming local hard drive.

Who is having their IPad shipped to their job

ordered 2 ipads today. thinking changing "ship to" address job, or better pre-sign.

i'm having mine sent office. depends on work though. if have dedicated receptionist sign don't see problem, unless person happens shady.

Lost VPN and PS3 media server connects

have macbook running 10.7.3.

have been using witopia vpn , ps3 media server couple years , out of neither of them connect anymore.

programs allowed accept incoming connections in firewall , little snitch. have tried turning off both firewall , little snitch , still no luck.

ipad uses same vpn connects fine. girlfriends pc , our desktop pc both able connect ps3. seems it's solely macbook stopped connecting these services out of blue.

help/suggestions appreciated.

MBA Water Damage / Keyboard Questions

have scoured threads here , ifixit.com , have found lot of useful info far - have contributed.

in fog of flu, spilled water on mba. flipped over, depowered, , put on fha vent drying. 24 hours later, booted , has been operational last 3 days issues being 3 or 4 keys dont work (like apostrophe key!).

brought genius bar , felt got used car sales job; refused 3 times quote me price on replacing top panel , wanted me replace both logic board , ssd, was, roughly, same price buying new. gave me big show corrosion (although hidden under ssd) , mba dead man walking.

questions these:

1) none of research indicates liquid damage fatal, particularly if water , didnt short components immediately. true, or gb agent characterizing mba having terminal cancer more correct?

2) cleaning corrosion - nothing explicit on here. in old days of raytheon stint, wouldve wiped down iso , mek, sure @ least mek no longer allowed. chems use? assuming nylon electronics brush tackle this, or need use more aggressive? once clean this, there else needed preclude future corrosion, or going recurring task?

3) assuming actual keyboard, repairable? there specific keys , wondering if need clean circuitry under keys.

all bets off when comes water damage. correct if initial spill doesn't kill it, odds of working fine in future increased in favor.

you want clean corroded area thoroughly , dry it. put on it's not exposed air; should prevent recurring/spreading. i've found thin layer of hot glue works pretty well.

HDMI from iPad, other screen in Portrait mode?

hello,

i'd use hdmi adapter ipad, display (sheet) music on ipad's screen screen. work - if hold ipad in portrait mode, other screen shows ipad 'image' in center, lots of black on left , right sides (i think called 'pillar box' format). if hold ipad in landscape mode, image fills other screen. want have music single 'page' on ipad (held in portrait mode on music stand) while other larger tv/monitor, mounted in portrait mode, shows same single sheet of music, filling screen.

is, i'd not have other screen (tv or monitor) in typical tv setup (landscape). i'd rotate other screen portrait mode, have ipad in portrait mode, , have output fill other screen. know ipad won't detect when rotate other screen of course - want find setting allows this. way music fills 2nd screen (a tv or monitor). hate see wasted (black) space on monitor!

want other screen in portrait mode (as hold ipad in portriat mode), displaying what's on ipad's screen, ipad held in portrait mode.

application of "digital signage" idea, in ipad connected larger screen mounted in portrait mode (90 degrees rotated way tv 'usually' viewed), , have ipad output fill screen.

can done?

i think if have sheet music sideways (wouldn't useful of time) can open file on ipad , lock rotation, turn ipad portrait (even though locked in landscape). display correctly on rotated tv well.

2 questions about going from a HDD to a SSD storage choice.

1) easy replace hard drive solid state drive?
2) performance improvement noticeable?

you'll notice boot , app launch part. notice when go save file, there's no real "wake" process. enjoy having ssd in macpro , stick 1 in laptop if buy another.

New MBP Core 2 Duo HDD

hey all,

have 2.4 ghz core 2 duo mbp factory drive in place. needing more space. have 4gb ram, , looking new hdd. don't see why shouldn't go ahead , 750 gb drive, have 2 major questions.

1.) sata 1.5 gbits/s , of drives out there 3.0 gbits/s. these 3.0 models work mbp?

2.) rmp/cache: have 5400/8mb hdd installed...would worth paying 7200/16mb hdd? don't special. have pretty large collection of movies, , listen lot of audiobooks/music. don't play video games, , although have lot of photos...i don't them.

suggestions on "best drive" and/or "best value" great. i'm go grad school , computer has last till finish.

yes should work. sometimes, sata 3.0gbit/s drives come jumper tells drive behave @ 1.5 speeds, not necessary.

7200rpm hdd faster 5400rpm drive @ expense of slightly more noise, vibration , heat. theoretically, battery life wouldn't affected since thought 7200rpm disk using more power, can complete writes faster means can go idle faster. of course, real world doesn't follow theories. said, 7200rpm way go; notice improvement.

should fine western digital or samsung hdd. i'm not familiar 2.5" laptop hdds , haven't been in market while can't offer better recommendation that.

p.s. when remove old disk, should install in external firewire or usb enclosure use backup/storage disk. has benefit of allowing clone current boot drive directly new hdd via carboncopycloner or similar software. saves lot of hassle.

try safari unibar (one big navi bar, same in google chrome)
nobookmarks (get rid of annoying bookmark page popping every time u open safari)
fullscreen safari (i have double tap in/out of full screen mode)
gridtab safari (nice expose tabs in safari)
homebutton in safari (adds home button in menu)
pull refresh safari (acts refresh/stop button when pull down)

u can try useragentfaker... toggle in sbs, it's quite handy.

these nice tweaks overall improves browsing safari, many should have been stock... well.

putting tons , tons of contacts ipad address book when of sudden screen went black , died. info, battery still had 60% left on it.

turned on ipad again , contacts had entered gone.

calculations in coredata results

i've read multiple tutorials core data of them have basic setup.. hope ill learn more each day it. cuz made somethings simpler. though absolute control sqlite gives bit of tradeoff.. maybe i'm wrong!

here i'm trying fetch things differently..

lets i'm trying record calculate results based on values stored in core data.

lets take enery equation : e=mc(square)

have 3 entities, parent/child/recentrecords

recent entity: purpose of entity store , track child entities , has:

i'll explain user's point of view,
if tap "einstain's equation" (category/parent entity), detail view bring out 2 textfields iterating through child entity. when record entries of mass, light speed, should saved in recent entity. overtime can have bunch of recordings.

image similar setup formula, v=u+at. velocity parent. u, a, t in child entity. , in 1 recording user add 3 recent entity objects.

question want find out if theres efficient way calculate results/entries @ parent/category entity level.

because, einstainsequation stores formula of child entities, e=mc2 , v=u+at. thing thats making complicated fetching entries recent entity based on timestamp (recording) , calculating , showing result based on recent entries.

How to restore deleted files on iPad 1

hi,

can tell me if possible restore deleted files ipad1? software existing purpose?

have no backup - lost unique photos in sync new pc deleted files (photos) on ipad , ended adding 2 unwanted pictures pc instead of transferring photos ipad pc.

, said - no backup made - don't know why.

alternative possible dump entire volume on hdd , work on conventional tools file scavenger etc.?

i'm going mac first time , i'm interested in buying setup can edit canon t3i 600d 1080 videos. personal use only, record daughter's soccer games lot , make small highlight videos out of them. i'd mac can first , foremost play .mov files sooc without choppiness easy editing within timeline on either premeire cs5 or fcp. don't mind long rendering time long actual editing time has no issue such choppy playback problem on crappy pc.

PowerBook G4 turns off when charger plugged in?

i have 1ghz 15" powerbook g4. runs fine off battery, plug charger in turns off , won't turn on again until static reset (powerbutton held down 10 secs).

i've tried pram, nvram , static resets. i've tried 3 different batteries, 3 different chargers (2x 65w & 1x 45w).

batteries won't charge either, , known batteries.

have no idea whats going on, have ideas?

faulty dc in board? guess though..

iMac as primarily Win7 machine

anybody here using imac windows 7 machine? if issues annoyances/quirks should consider if looking @ imac on similar all-in-one dell/hp/lenovo?

have mba , had mbp, windows 7 purposes superior os (i can't on file menu anchored top on multi-monitor rig, , hate cluttered , functionality of dock). however, love hardware of imac - ips panel, core i7, , ability jam 2x ssd's in hard drive slot bit of sweat (i'm not sure dell or others have sata ports available that). downside lack of usb3 , blue-ray.

Mouse Terminating / Timing Out?

hello!

logitech m100 usb mouse keeps freezing and/or turning off - constantly! every 5 minutes, mouse shuts off (the laser @ bottom turns off) , becomes no longer operational. fix it, have unplug , plug in. solution 5 minutes.

every time mouse disconnected, noticed pop in console:

i wonder if mouse bad? never have problems mice on of macs. use logitech vx470 bt mouse on main machine , various other usb, usb/wireless , bt mice on our other macs. no problem. ever. might mouse going bad or... usb port going bad. yikes!

Verizon to Require 4G LTE Compatibility for 'All' Future Smartphones

cnet yesterday reported verizon has announced "hard requirement" future smartphones released on carrier support 4g lte technology faster data speeds. requirement has naturally led speculation carrier has confirmed iphone 5 support lte, had been assumed , rumored.

i'm using fcp 7 on mac pro , thinking installing ssd in mac pro speed. people seem put system files , applications on ssd , leave rest rotating discs, can gather. looking ssd use fast scratch disk. system files , apps on ssd seems best route everyday speed, better off keeping final cut on internal drive , using ssd scratch disk files working on? use 2 2tb glyph gt-050qs connected esata scratch disks, , drives read 130 mb/s way.

or best 2 smaller ssds , both, use 1 os x , applications , other scratch files?

New iPad branding - would iPad2 HD been better?

when new ipad came out, sure marketed extension of ipad2 - ipad2 hd.

positioning new ipad upgraded graphics version of ipad2 have quashed lot of objections of weight, heat , battery life - opting hd model clear costs more , there slight compromises on weight.

have announced price reduction of ipad2 keeping higher storage options, , still able claim weight , battery life of basic range (unlike offering 16gb)

realize not different now, marking makes huge difference on how product perceived - non-tech types or newbies.

hard fault apple here since i'm sure did share of homework, me seems if extended ipad2 rather replace have made more sense me.

the product substantial upgrade ipad 2, claiming "ipad 2 hd" saying ipad 2s , it's far better that. , adding name make numbering more convoluted, idea dropping numbering simplicity , not having worry sound of "ipad 10", etc. it'd confusing regarding name ipad after "ipad 2 hd" also.

Option to purchase iLife not available in App Store, only accept?

i've found various threads on this, don't tend give lot of information.

sold mid-11 mba friend when got ipad 3 covered mobile needs. boyfriend reinstalled lion recovery partition, when went install ilife suite, couldn't. there's option 'accept' apps, they're tied itunes account. none of can find way enable purchasing apps.

currently, i've given username , password download , update them, it's kind of pain if has log in me update (not sure if that's case).

buying ilife 11 dvd option, or missing enable purchase? if so, sell them @ apple store don't have order off of amazon/bestbuy.com?

they need buy apps under own mas itunes account. @ moment, tied account, purchased you. if have logged mas redownload apps etc, potentially download whatever want under account, , have charged you. not neatest way things if passing ownership.
if have logged out, unable run updates on apps until log in.

easiest way things them repurchase apps under own account, or purchase dvd.

i got bit of quandary... friend , planned on ordering ppv month ago. show starts @ 4pm our time. decides since other friend showing late (6pm) due work go ahead , go play intermural softball @ 5:30p, "cause team needs him" not starting ppv until after show has ended @ around 7:30-8pm. tells me not when finds out has game last sunday, when happen ask him 3 days before show.

screw it... going watch show @ home wife then... , ditch out on friends.

jerky 1 here? cause can't seem understand why i'm ditching them...

Any one ever change shipping address after order was placed?

so, placed order on 7th , on 8th @ night, called them while still "processing" , changed shipping address. husband , aren't going home tomorrow figured i'd have sent parent's house, home day. thursday. order in "processing" until sunday, did not come out of "preparing shipment" until yesterday. well, today email says have "submitted address change request carrier. once receive response carrier, notify email." needless say, haven't heard after that. (although did email customer service management representative saying contact @ apple , if need further assistance, contact him-not sure why got email. did email him right after receiving never heard back.)

question is, think ipad still @ delivered @ parent's house tomorrow (even though literally 5 minutes away house)? has 1 else ever had change shipping address , had issues? i'm not sure why address change such big deal since changed last thursday , did not sent out until yesterday. plus, when called day change it, never said me being issue. said changed. anyway, help!

Cant access files after restore

i restored harddrive boot camp , lost ton of files. hd says im using 62g can see says 250 full used disk inventory , found files thought lost cant find them other way. can me restore thesse files? there on computer , taking space , id them or worst case delete them free space.
