i've been using macbook air 8 months (it purchased in late 2010, hence no more warranty, , given me gift), , last weekend, started chirping seemingly randomly, seemingly coming motherboard, totally independent of volume control. when happens, chirps precisely every 30 seconds, stops chirping after 1 or 2 chirp, after 10 minutes.
have searched high , low on net mac chirp/beep, listened mac beeps on youtube, etc. , mine doesn't sound of them. it's extremely loud, , chirp short. can't remember doing first time chirped. while thought usage related, can't identify specific program/files, realized chirping during hibernation, , when computer turned off power adapter unplugged!!
ran disk utility , hardware check , such , fine. took apple genius bar, , genius totally baffled whole situation , why beep when computer off. ran quick , dirty checks there , in working order. , of course while there computer refused make single beep... didn't think "serious", suggested leave computer overnight , have them stress-test it. didn't because i'm rather reliant on mac , since still worked figured i'd wait out , see.
on past week, chirping seems have increased in frequency. today when came home darn thing chirping (while turned off) , hasn't stopped chirping since turned on, 20min , counting , it's still chirping every 30 seconds. think longest has chirped. computer runs absolutely fine, no error messages, no random shutdowns of programs, nothing. except annoying chirp.
help/suggestion appreciated.
it makes noise in rooms? (i ask because maybe else in room...smoke alarm?)
maybe try draining battery , no ac , see if still does...
