Best version of Ubuntu (or any other Linux) for Macbook Pro 6,2

i have done ssd update , not have cd drive in macbook. attempted install ubuntu few times unsuccessfully using few different methods. including trying boot flash drive did not work because macbook wouldn't recognize when choosing boot devices.

has installed version of linux onto macbookpro6,2 without use of optical drive?
