hi all,
floppy in mac plus seized up, attempted relubrication procedure described here:
http://68kmla.org/wiki/floppy_drive_lubrication
did not fix drive, did fix eject mechanism. put disks in, fail format, , eject them.
however, disaster struck, because 10 minutes after turned on, eject motor spinning time. have tried taking mac apart again, couldn't see different in drive how when put in.
have ****ed up? there hope floppy drive, and, indeed mac plus?
thanks,
daniel
ps happens if disconnect floppy drive, mac still boot hd?
pps. screen seems work after mac warms up. know won't last ever, i'm leaving now.
it's entirely possible eject mechanism still requires cleaning , re-lubricating. if mechanism doesn't return it's ejected position, eject motor switch can activated, making motor go through revolution.
depending on how bad environment drive has been in original lubrication can badly caked onto metal parts , needs removed. when used these dozen, remove top mechanism, eject motor assembly, , bottom sliding deck. must remove 4 split washers , eject motor remove sliding deck. there can still seized lubricant under sliding deck , underside of eject motor has roller bearing may need cleaning , lubricating. once you've reconditioned these drives several times production line style easier.
eject motor uses switch operated cam turn motor off once ejected position reached.
on 800k drives there 2 types.
1 type used in pictures on page linked to. can delicate disassemble, it's not impossible.
@ top of drive. see small green circuit board in front of eject motor. board held in couple of plastic clips @ edge. release clips , lift circuit board straight up. not lift @ angle.
on underside of board you'll see 2 parts of switch. long flexible part moved cam, , short fixed part other touches close circuit. cleaning surfaces meet emery paper might required. refitting pcb little fiddly. note switch parts must fit narrow slots on plastic housing , switch must open avoid being crushed cam.
other type has micro switch white actuator operated cam on top. these don't tend prone failure anything's possible. pic above poor quality site below better pic seems down atm.
eject motor gearbox can culprit, though rare. there short guide here (site seems down atm)
