Final cut pro x compatibility issues and why is my import window so big?

so firstly, mts videos sony hd camcorder aren't mac compatible @ all. tried free converter (smart converter) ended messing quality of clip , still wouldn't import right way final cut pro x. should do? i've heard clip wrap , other converters, after using first 1 ruined clips, i'm little hesitant on throwing money @ stuff might not work.

secondly, when try import movies have abnormally large import window covers of thumbnails i'd searching through. looks like



isn't normal right? how can change this?

 

really? nobody knows anything? thought of places ask, it'd place ton of mac users hang out
