Virtual box help

i'm going start off saying i'm not computer literate.
i'm trying install solidworks (a cad program) on virtual box, unfortunately when first installed virtual box dedicated 916 mb it. solidworks says need atleast 1 gb of ram, it's working slow. how dedicate more ram virtual box easily?
i'm wondering when dedicate ram virtual box mean it's not available mac part when virtual box isn't running?
btw, have unibody macbook 4gb of ram.
thinking of adding more ram, have 2, 2gb (cards?) thought adding 4 gb card (to make 6gb total). i've heard shouldn't run 2 different sized ram cards, should pay , 2, 4gb?
thank you, colin

stick matching pair of 4gig sticks in there

ram allocated virtual machines off limits osx whilst virtual machine running

ie have 4 5 or more individual virtual machines configured each 2 gig of ram allocated, active ones consume 2 gig each, , while they're running

increase ram allocation virtual machine in virtual box:

run virtual box

select virtual machine in list , make sure listed powered off (dont start vm while trying make changes) in example xpmini

double click machines system details entry

in dialog appears use slider increase amount of allocated ram

hit ok save change , you're done
